IT’S beginning to sound like a well-worn record that every week the weather is decimating the fixtures in the Kernow Kitchen St Piran League, but last weekend was no different with a host of matches being called off, writes Leon Prynn

St Day managed to stage their premier division clash with Porthleven at Vogue Park, but The Fishermen dented the Saints’ title hopes with a hard-earned 2-2 draw.

After a keenly fought first half that ended goalless Sam Buckley nudged St Day in front from a Kyle Marks corner, but The Fishermen were always in the game and deservedly equalised through Charlie Young.

The visitors threatened an upset when they took the lead through Dan Parker, but Joe Cooper rescued a point for the Saints with a late header from another Marks corner.

Another game that was goalless at half-time was Redruth United’s home match with Pendeen Rovers, but the visitors made up for it in the second period when goals from Alex Ralph and Matt Roberts earned Rovers a narrow 2-1 win.

Mousehole Development switched their game to Penryn College’s all-weather pitch in order to get the game played and it paid off after beating Helston Athletic Development 2-1. Greg Eastman had The Blues’ goal.

Mawnan chalked up the biggest result of the day when they overcame Helston Development II 9-3.

Two goals from Luke Wort in the opening seven minutes put Mawnan on the road to victory, but despite the mounting scoreline the young Helston side acquitted themselves well and always looked dangerous in attack.

Jago Taylor snapped up four goals with Wort hitting a first-half hat-trick. Dom Pullen and Kevin Morris had the other goals and for Athletic Charlie Simms, Charley Hendy and Tom Row scored.

Troon pulled off a useful 3-2 win against inform Camborne SoM after the visitors scored through Karlo Jawo and a penalty from Gillan McDonnell.

Just one game was played in division two with Newlyn Non-Athletico defeating St Buryan 4-1 thanks to goals from Jack Liddicoat (2), Tom McGarry and Adam Strowger.

Lizard Argyle were 2-0 winners away to Carharrack in division three after scoring through Matt Cowie and Owen Williams and St Erme trounced RNAS Culdrose 6-2 at the air base with a hat-trick from Brandon McDonnell, Thierry Murley (2) and an own goal.

There were no fixtures played in division four.

St Just Reserves looked like pulling off a surprise win against Dropship in the Percy Stephens Cup, but the Cornwall Junior Cup semi-finalists hit back to win 4-3.

Ashley Ellis put the Tinners 2-0 ahead, but in the space of a few minutes before the break Dropship were on level terms with goals from Paul Robertson and Toby Webb.

Dropship extended their lead to 4-2 with goals from David Webb and Toby Webb before St Just snapped up a late third goal.
