As National Highways approach the final stage of its upgrade to the A30, a weekend road closure has been put in place.

From 8pm today (Friday, May 10) closures will be in place between Scorrier and Boxheater to allow National Highways to carry out surfacing and infrastructure work.

The road will reopen at 6am on Monday, May 13.

National Highways is asking those who drive high-sided vehicles and normal traffic to divert via Chacewater to avoid the low bridge at Scorrier which is 4.7m by 12’32 high.

All eastbound and westbound traffic under the height restriction can use the diversion route via Blackwater, and local access north and south is via the B3284 at Chybucca.

For almost four years, National Highways along with Cornwall Council have been refurbishing the main road out of the Duchy but have faced numerous delays due to bad weather and the pandemic in 2021.

However, the Packet reported in February the much-anticipated opening of the A30 section had been delayed by three months due to bad weather.

At the time, National Highways said that the dualling of the Chiverton to Carland Cross section of the A30 had been expected to open at the end of March but is now forecast to open for traffic in June.

National Highways said that since the scheme received its development Consent Order in 2020, the programme of work had to adapt to the effects of the pandemic and has since been faced with growing challenges – including 14 Met Office classified storms between January 2021 and August 2023.
